July 20th Web Basics Class Cancelled

The Web Basics session scheduled for Tuesday, July 20th is cancelled because Dave is getting sick. Hopefully, Janet's lemon tea remedy should cure his ills, but class is still cancelled.

Care and Feeding Class Scheduled for 7/12

A long time in the works, we announce our "Care and Feeding" Linux basics class. It will be piloted Monday, July 12th from 6:30 to 8:30pm at 3411 W. Diversey, and will be instructed by two Freegeek Chicago staff. Care and Feeding is a one-time class that will be offered regularly as a supplement to our volunteer program. It is designed to provide support for new users of Xubuntu, the Linux operating system that we install on the Freekboxes that volunteers earn after completing 24 hours of service.

FreeGeek Chicago will be closed July 4th, in observance of Independence Day.  Normal hours resume Monday, July 5, with sale & donation hours and Tuesday, July 6 with the web basics class.

Introducing the Web Basics class

FreeGeek Chicago is excited to announce our first educational program, Web Basics. The program begins next Tuesday, June 22nd, from 6:30-8:30pm at FreeGeek Chicago (3411 W. Diversey, basement). The program is free, and open to people of all skill levels. The program will meet no less than twice a month, and the program will run until late summer or early fall – the group will set the schedule in the first few sessions.

New Sales and Donation Days!

Starting May 31, 2010, Freegeek Chicago will have expanded hours for walk-in sales customers and to accept donations. We will now be open every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10AM to 3PM, and Sundays 11AM to 5PM for sales and donations. The earn-a-computer volunteer program hours will stay the same (Fridays 10AM-3PM, Sundays 11AM-5PM).

Our landlord has installed a new heater for us, which as of December 20 is working! So this winter you can volunteer for Freegeek Chicago in comfort. Orientation may be a bit shout-ier, because that thing is loud!
