Good news everybody! FreeGeek Chicago has officially hired Cecilia Calabria as our Summer Intern for 2012. Cecilia comes to FreeGeek with a fantastic background in the open-source community as well as a ton of entrepreneurial experience. We know that Cecilia will help us connect to new Chicago communities, build new services/programs for the FreeGeek community, and develop new revenue to keep us financially sustainable.
While we are excited to have Cecilia on-board for the summer, we still need your help to make this happen! Please consider a small (or large!) donation to our fundraising campaign to help us pay for this awesome summer intern.
Finally, we asked Cecilia to provide a little background on herself:I am a Linux enthusiast, an IT Professional with knowledge and experience in open technologies. I worked five years in my own startup in Venezuela leveraging Free (Libre) and Open Source Software. I was committed with the idea of free knowledge accessible to everyone. I was captivated (maybe trapped) with the philosophy and sense of community around FLOSS. I have actively participated in the Free Software Community and Ubuntu user group in Caracas, learning and teaching people the basics of the computer world and Linux. I have participated in organizing several community events, including the Free Software National Conference in Caracas. I am so exited to have the opportunity to share my previous experience and continuing learning with an organization who preserves that philosophy.
