Workshop - Intro to Digital Privacy

FreeGeek Chicago hosts a Saturday Workshop on Digital Privacy presented by Keidra Chaney and Raizel Liebler of The Learned Fan Girl. This Workshop is aimed at people who have started to extend their professional online presence using social media.

This event is free and open to the public, though we do suggest a $5.00 donation to support FreeGeek's Education Programming. Give us a heads up and Register Here.

From the presenters:

Several years ago, companies were skittish about employee use of blogs and other social media tools. More recently, brands are increasingly creating “official” company social media profiles, as well as establishing social media policies to encourage employees to unofficially represent a company via social media during the work-day and off-hours, with the understanding that transparency and personal contact are widely seen as important to success in social media communication and marketing.

We’ll discuss issues involving intellectual property, privacy, and the bounds of employment within personal and professional social media use. By the end of the workshop participants will know how to audit their online reputation and will be able to develop guidelines and frameworks to help individuals draw lines between their professional work and their online privacy to shield personal information from the public on social media.
