Purchase computers and parts

FreeGeek Chicago sells low-cost refurbished computers and parts at our thrift store. Proceeds from sales cover FreeGeek's operating costs. All parts in the thrift store are available on a first-come, first-served basis. An update-to-date price list for most parts available is available on our community wiki.

Basic PC systems start at $40. Basic laptops start at $75 (inventory is very limited, please contact us in advance to check on inventory). We also have some higher-end parts and systems-- for a list see the special items' page.

All FreeGeek systems are installed with the latest version of Ubuntu Linux, a fast, simple, and beautiful Linux distribution. All our systems com with full set of useful applications that includes the Firefox web browser, the full OpenOffice suite, instant messaging, email, photo editing, and access to thousands of applications and utilities provided by the Ubuntu project.

The minimum hardware available in our basic PC:

1.5 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or better processor (or AMD equivalent)
512mb RAM
30gb or more hard drive storage
48x or better CD-ROM drive

Return Policy

There are NO CASH RETURNS for any item sold from the FreeGeek Shop; we offer STORE CREDIT ONLY.
14-day returns for FreeGeek Systems (Desktop and Laptop systems) and LCD Monitors
14-day exchange/return for covered parts that are defective.
All other items are sold AS IS with no exchange/return.

Warranties

FreeGeek Chicago stands behind its refurbished systems and offers a basic limited-warranty on all FreeGeek Systems and LCD Monitors. Ask about upgrading your FreeGeek System's limited-warranty to 1-year at checkout.
